Coit Tower in San Francisco at sunset.
This is a view of Coit Tower in San Francisco, looking North with Alcatraz Island in the background. It is late afternoon/early evening with the city lights just beginning to come on. I think Herb Caen would have liked the red glow of The Tower, reflecting the intense, yet serene sunset.
The original work is acrylic on double-primed canvas, 20x16 inches and mounted on heavy stretcher bars. Two coats of acrylic varnish have been applied for U-V protection. The sides of a mounted canvas are often painted black, although some people prefer an unfinished look. I believe a good option is to use a floating frame with a 1⁄8 or 1⁄4 inch gap. It provides a clean look.
